When sexual slavery is outlawed, most of the rational world rejoices. Another shameful chapter of history, tucked neatly away. Rory doesn’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but the thing he wants most in the world is impossible to go home, to his master, where he was safe. Life without slavery isn’t worth living. He dodges out of the “Freedom Project” with his new friend Demon, and vows to find his master, whatever it takes. He only hopes that once he does, life will go back to normal. Geo Fairbanks doesn’t even tell people he used to own a slave. And the people who know? Think he’s deluded. “The kid was a slave, Geo. He wasn’t your boyfriend.” He switched careers, moved to a new town, and cut ties with everyone, but none of it helps. He needs Rory. When it looks like there might be a way to find him, Geo does whatever it takes. Once they’re reunited, everything should be perfect. Shouldn’t it? Then why does Rory have more questions than answers? His friends are done with slavery, over it, moving on, but part of him? Part of him misses kneeling at Master’s feet. A very specific part of him misses being tied to Master’s bed. It would be one thing if Geo would just take over, like he did in the old days, but Geo’s just as clueless as Rory about how to live with each other as equal men. Then the unthinkable happens and Geo finds himself searching for Rory all over again. Can he find Rory before he disappears into the new black market for slaves? And if he does, will they ever figure out how to be in a relationship not dictated by legal contracts dictating exactly what they mean to each other?

Going Home Volume 1 Kris Ripper Books

The story parallels the slavery that America experienced with black people. Only in this world, the slaves have nothing to do with race. They are men and women, who were either born into this life, or opted for it over jail. And most are used as sex slaves.

America has abolished this slavery and we the reader are taken along on the ride to recovery, focusing on a male slave and male master who were in love and are now separated.

The story does not focus on the sex, although there is some. It’s focused on the emotional journey these characters take. Every character has a very distinct voice and is very believable. The amount of realism in this book is astounding to me.

The story does come full circle and has an ending with closure. I looked to see if there were more books in the series and was delighted to find there are. But the author is taking an untraditional approach to the sequels. The couple who traded off narrating the first book do not get the spotlight in the second book. Which has made me even more excited to read them, I am interested to see how the world is viewed from other characters in the novels.

I would mark this book as a must read for anyone who is willing to read a male/male romance. The messages and themes in this book are deeper than what you’ll find in your common erotica.

Going Home Volume 1 Kris Ripper Books Reviews

I was surprised by how much I liked this book, a thoughtful exploration of slavery and BDSM. This has a lot of button pressing issues and is not for everyone, but it's sensitively handled and not at all gratuitous. I liked the main lovers, esp Rory/Roar, but I liked all the side characters too, Maizy and Demon were fully fledged in their own right. The middle of the book was a bit too much therapy (I should check to see how often the word was used, it seemed to be on every page for a while there) But then again, the characters had been through such terrible and confusing things. I liked to see how Geo also struggled to see what his behavior had contributed. The whole idea of being 'good slave owners' was also sensitively explored.

Very happy with this book, glad to see it's a series, will buy the next one
Kris Ripper is proving to be a real gem in m/m and erotic fiction. I was first introduced to Ripper through the Little Red and the Big Bad series and was very impressed with zir clear writing and elegant prose. Out of new LRBB installments, I picked up Going Home.
I am very happy I did.
Going Home is set in an alternate reality where slavery and indentured servitude have been a normal part of life until recently. Given the content, there were so very many ways for this story to go wrong. It managed to do none of them.
Instead, Ripper handles the subject of slavery and personal determination with the same ease ze handles everything else, and the psychology of both former slave and former maser are explored in detail. But even as our protagonists come to understand the horror of true slavery, their love blooms and solidifies, making this an excellent read both for people in the kink community and out.
Great as our protagonists are, the fantastic characterization is not limited to them. Supporting characters and background characters all shine just as brightly. Attitudes and assumptions are explored with a gentle hand, as is the nature of gender and sexuality—which themselves are so present as to be characters in their own right. It is the multifaceted nature of the characters and their relationships that are the biggest victory in this book.
In short, I highly recommend Going Home to everyone. You will not regret this read.
I didn't know what type of story this would be, but I think I, like the author before writing it, assumed it would be lighthearted romance with some kink. What I read was much better than that. Yes, there is a love story between a former slave and the man who had been his owner. As much as they both want to be together, they realize that they can't have a relationship as two free men without processing the complex psychological damage left behind by slavery. This is what takes the book up to a new level. The author has a wonderful ability to imagine and describe the struggles of the protagonists as they work through what was real in their previous master-slave relationship and the changes that need to occur in both their mindsets if they hope to have a successful relationship as equals. It is clear the author carefully and with great sensitivity thought through how a lifelong slave might feel and think, and the results are both profound and nuanced. The multilayered psychological issues are combined with excellent writing and a dry wit, making this book enjoyable on many levels. It is not just worth reading, it is worth reading carefully.
4.75 stars. I love Rory and Geo together. They're determined to find one another after being separated. They struggle to find footing in the new parameters of their relationship, but never even consider giving up. Rory proves he's way stronger than he thinks he is and really he's the stronger of the two. Geo always wants what's best for Rory, loves him beyond measure and becomes the hero I believed him to be. The side characters are wonderful. Terrific writing and storyline.
Adult read
Rory and Geo have been separated from each other by the new anti-slavery law. They love each other, but the law says they can't talk for 5 years. How would you react if you couldn't see the person you love for five years?

I love how dedicated they are to each other and finding each other. I like how they both have to change the way they think in regards to slavery and their own actions. They love each other and have to figure out their roles now that Rory is a free man.
I loved the way this book read and how diverse the characters are. I really think that you should give this book a read and enjoy the dedication that all the characters have to each other.
